Design-build

Construction input begins during design.

In the traditional sequence, a home is designed, then bid, then built, and the first person to price the design is the contractor who wasn't in the room. We work the other way around.

The traditional sequence

  1. 1 · Design
  2. 2 · Bid
  3. 3 · Build

The design is finished before anyone who will build it prices it. Bids come back over budget, and drawings go back for another round.

Construction-led design-build

  • —Design decisions are evaluated alongside construction cost, feasibility and buildability.
  • —Our construction team participates early, so design and budget evolve together.
  • —Potential construction challenges are identified before they become expensive field changes.

Questions

Who designs my project?+

Depending on the project, PFB collaborates with architects, designers, structural engineers, energy consultants and other licensed specialists. We assemble the right team around your project and coordinate it through one design-build process, with our construction team involved from the start.

Are you licensed and insured?+

Yes. PFB Construction, Inc. holds California contractor license #1062894 (B, General Building), is bonded, and carries workers' compensation insurance. You can verify the license on the CSLB website.

Do you handle permits?+

Yes. Permit coordination is part of our process: we prepare and coordinate submissions with the design team and work through city review and inspections.

Do you publish prices?+

Every home and scope is different, so we discuss budget in a consultation, after we understand your goals and the existing conditions. You'll know what drives the cost of your specific project before you commit.
